Compare mode allows a user to view all versions of a proof and compare the changes made during the review process side by side in the proof view.
Note that a user is only able to view the Proof Versions that they were given access to.
This article will cover:
- Viewing Proof Versions in Compare Mode
- Compare Mode Tools
- Auto Compare Mode
Viewing Proof Versions in Compare Mode
To trigger Compare Mode, click on the version dropdown menu in the Proof Viewer and select the icon in the top-left corner of the Proof Viewer. An automatic side-by-side view will appear with the current proof and a former version.
Compare Mode Tools
There are two notable menus that allow viewers and users to compare or markup the proofs.
1. Top Menu Compare Tools
2. Proof Display Tools
1. Top Menu Compare Tools
The top menu arrangement impacts the way both proofs are interacted with during compare mode. You can setup which version is displayed left and right, as well as whether you want both views to synchronize as you review and markup the current proof.
- The version dropdown menu allows you to choose a proof version for each side of compare mode. The chosen version will include annotations and markups linked to them.
- The decision button is visible for those with decision making access for a version. It's a convenient way to approve or deny a proof while in compare mode where a user can view the feedback and changes between proof versions.
- Users with management access can unlock the proof to add additional comments or markups to the former version while in Compare Mode. If a proof is locked and the viewer is unable to unlock the proof, they will only be able to view previous comments on the proof.
- Any changes to the view of one version will automatically reflect on the other version while in compare mode. For example, panning to an area or switching proof pages within one proof version will automatically apply to the other version in the proof viewer as well. Clicking this button will lock/unlock this synchronization.
- The Re-sync icon allows you to fit the two versions being compared to synchronize and fit to the window if you have each version at a different zoom level or page from the other.
- The overlay icon allows you to switch between a side-by-side view of both proof versions during compare mode, or a presentation of both versions on top of each other to compare each other's differences. In overlay, you can shift the order of which image is dominant by dragging the view divider towards either direction.
- The auto-compare icon highlights the differences between versions in Compare Mode within the viewer using a specified color.
2. Proof Display Tools
Reviewers can use these tools in order to change the proof display for a current proof the same way as if viewed in normal mode. This includes markups and commenting on the proof. A former version proof must first be unlocked by a Proof User in order to continue to be commented on or marked up. For a more detailed overview of these tools, click here.
Auto Compare Mode
Auto Compare will automatically highlight the differences between proof versions, visibly presenting where in the proof changes were made between versions.
With Auto Compare, note the extra emphasis on the area where the cracker was added, as well as the application of a filter to the entire image:
Auto Compare Settings
Next to the Auto Compare Icon, there is a dropdown with further settings, allowing a user to select the highlight color and whether the highlights will blink to show the differences, or just be overlayed on the newest version with the selected color.
